Why I Wrote This

I'm Koh, and I spent a decade building a process I could actually trust.

It wasn't because I got lucky. I built a strategy methodically over a decade, through trial, error, and more earnings call transcripts than I'd like to admit.

I was earning a good salary, paying attention to my portfolio, and doing what I thought I was supposed to do. I just didn't understand how the capital game actually worked.

One question changed everything: Do I actually know why I own this?

The seven-pillar approach grew out of that question. I pressure-tested it across multiple market cycles, including some that really hurt.

That morning I realized I could say no to work I didn't want and yes to work that actually mattered to me. That shift in thinking changed how I approached every financial decision after it. That's the clarity this book is built to give you.

How the Process Works

Two things come before everything else.

  • Your Target Number. The portfolio value you're building toward. Every decision is calibrated against this.

  • Your Risk Profile. How much volatility your life can actually absorb. This determines every sizing and allocation decision that follows.

Then you run the seven pillars:

  1. The Purge. Evaluate the positions you're holding out of habit, not conviction.

  2. The Wall Test. Evaluate whether a company's competitive advantage is real and durable.

  3. The Financial Truth Test. Run the numbers and find what doesn't hold up under scrutiny.

  4. The Thesis Builder. Sharpen your investment case into something you can write down and defend.

  5. Valuation and Entry Price. Determine whether the price makes sense given everything you've found.

  6. Portfolio Construction. Think through a mix that matches your risk profile and your timeline.

  7. The Rebalance Process. Keep the portfolio on track without turning it into a second job.
